A note from the founder
Bachata Academy is not just fresh air for the Freiburg bachata community, it’s the change we need in the scene.
I joined the Freiburg social dance scene at the end of the pandemic, and my dance school quickly became my second home. Dance allowed me to make new friends, feel like I was part of a community, and explore a new way of dancing – one without choreography, based on connection and community. Dancing can bring you so many wonderful things in life – confidence, a sense of identity, and comfort in your own body.
In this way, dance has been such a positive force in my life. However, I have also seen the darker side of many dance schools. I have seen the harm that can occur when unhealthy power dynamics go unchecked and those in positions of responsibility fail to act, as well as the impact this can have on the entire community.
Bachata Academy was founded on the belief that we can do better—that a dance school should be a place where people feel safe, supported, and valued.
My goal was to create the dance school that I wish existed when I started dancing, a dance school with the right values: a focus on community, on good technique and basics rather than flashy or dangerous moves, a place where role rotation is encouraged and creativity is welcome, a school where you know the school leadership and your teachers will always have your best interests at heart.
Many people underestimate the impact dance can have in your life. There is nothing like walking into dance class after a long day, seeing all your friends smile at you, and knowing you are home.
The mission of Bachata Academy Freiburg is simple - to create a space where everyone who loves to dance will always have a home.

Individual Attention
Small class sizes give every student the opportunity to ask questions, receive individual feedback, and work directly with our instructors throughout every class.
Strong Foundations
We believe great dancing starts with the fundamentals. Rather than chasing flashy moves, we focus on technique, connection, musicality, and the skills that make social dancing feel natural with any partner.
Community & Safe Space
Dance is about connection—both on and off the dance floor. We foster an LGBTQ+ friendly community where everyone is welcome, role rotation is encouraged, and our Code of Conduct ensures respect for every dancer. Through socials, parties, festival trips, and community events, we create friendships that extend beyond the classroom.
Musicality and Expression
We believe bachata is about more than learning steps—it's about connecting with the music. Every course incorporates musicality and styling, including how to naturally integrate them into partnerwork, and our dedicated Musicality & Styling classes help you develop confidence, creativity, and your own unique dance style.
